Wall Framing
Where required, diagonal let-in bracing is recommended for corners.
1/2" (12.7 mm) GlasRoc® Sheathing should be fastened to wood or steel framing spaced no more than a maximum of 16" (400 mm) o.c.
5/8" (15.9 mm) GlasRoc® Sheathing Type X should be fastened to wood or steel framing spaced no more than a maximum of 24" (600 mm) o.c.
Note: Structural testing is based on 16" (400 mm) o.c. wood stud spacing.

Ceiling and Soffit Framing
1/2" (12.7 mm) GlasRoc® Sheathing should be fastened to wood or steel framing spaced no more than a maximum of 16" (400 mm) o.c. for parallel to stud framing and maximum of 24" (600 mm) o.c. for perpendicular to stud framing.
5/8" (15.9 mm) GlasRoc® Sheathing Type X should be fastened to framing spaced no more than a maximum of 24" (600 mm) o.c. parallel or perpendicular to wood or steel framing.

Joint Treatment
Depending upon the exterior finishing system specified, a joint treatment may not be required when using GlasRoc® Sheathing.

For applications requiring a joint treatment, there are several methods which offer short term (up to 6 months) or long term (6 months or longer) protection from moisture intrusion at joints. Consult your exterior finishing system manufacturer, cladding manufacturer or local building code authority to determine the appropriate joint treatment.

Short Term - Wind and/or Rain Barrier
A short term joint treatment is recommended when GlasRoc® Sheathing will be exposed to outdoor environmental conditions for up to 6 months or where a wind barrier is required. Two alternatives are recommended:

Wind Barrier: Use 2” (50 mm) minimum wide contractor sheathing tape such as 3M® Brand Y-8086 Contractor Sheathing Tape, Tuck® 20502 Contractor Sheathing Tape or equivalent. For optimal protection, apply the tape in long lengths. Sheathing tapes should be pressed firmly against the panel joints.

Wind and Rain Barrier: Use exterior grade caulk such as Dow Corning 795 Silicone Building Sealant or equivalent. Exterior grade caulk should be applied in a 3/8” (10 mm) bead to all joint seams. For joint openings wider than 1/8” (3 mm), apply a backer rod to the joint. Use a trowel to compress the caulk into the joints. For optimal protection, caulk beads should be continuous to maintain a continuous barrier.

Long Term - Wind and Water Barrier
A long term joint treatment is recommended where a wind and water barrier is required as an alternative to a separate weather-resistive barrier.

Wind and Water Barrier: Use an exterior grade caulk such as Dow Corning 795 Building Sealant or equivalent in conjunction with a glass mesh joint tape. For joint openings wider than 1/8” (3 mm), apply a backer rod to the joint. Apply the glass mesh tape to all board joints with overlaps at intersections. Apply a minimum 3/8” (10 mm) bead of sealant over the tape at the joints and hand trowel the sealant level creating a flat surface. Apply sealant to each exposed fastener and trowel level.

Note: Refer to exterior cladding manufacturer and local codes to determine if a weather resistive barrier is required over gypsum sheathing and/or over joint penetrations and openings.

CAUTION: This product contains continuous filament fiberglass. Fibers may be released in the normal handling of this product which can cause respiratory, minor skin and eye irritations. Avoid  contact with eyes and skin.

Do not breathe dust. Signs and symptoms of over-exposure include temporary irritation of eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Aggravated medical conditions may include respiratory illness, however there are first aid procedures that can reduce risk of illness. These include moving to area for fresh air in the case of inhalation. If material irritates the eye, flush with running water for 15 minutes. When contact with skin occurs, wash gently with soap and water. However, when used under normal circumstances, following installation instructions, this product is not expected to present health hazards.
