Apply gypsum board to ceiling first.

Insure framing member spacing is suitable for curvature.

For steel studs with a radius less than 60” apply flat sheet steel to both sides of the framing at mid height or 4’ intervals for walls taller than 9’ to prevent twisting of the studs as the board is applied.

Flex Gypsum Board is significantly more flexible when applied parallel to the framing - see chart.

Application to tight curvatures requires care and is best done by two installers.

Plan board application to minimize joints and where possible locate joints on the straight section of the wall.

Flex Gypsum Board is typically installed in two layers, with joints offset between layers.

For outside curves, attach one end of gypsum board to framing (if possible start from straight section of wall). Progressively push board into contact with framing, fastening to each framing member. Flex must be in firm contact with framing when driving fasteners. Tighter radii will require additional fasteners to prevent pull through.

For inside curves, position board to align with one end. Carefully apply pressure to the center area of the board to bring the board in contact with the ürst framing member. This is best done by 2 installers. Progressively apply pressure to the center area of the board bringing the board in contact with the next framing member. Longer fasteners at close spacing may be required for tight radii. As board is fastened to each framing member, tighten fasteners on previous framing members. Inside curves are more difücult to install,while dry application is possible wetting the board will make installation easier for tighter radii.

To facilitate tighter bend radii or provide easier application to an inside curve the following is recommended.

Apply sufficient water with a paint roller or sprayer to wet the paper on each side (about 10 oz. per side). Allow to soak 10-15 minutes before bending.

For inside curve, reverse wetted board (back facing out) and carefully bend over an outside curved surface of similar radius. Remove and apply “pre-curved” board to the inside curve.
