May I fasten a fire rated gypsum board wall partition with screws instead of nails?
Yes, screws may be used as an alternative to nails in fire rated assemblies, but must be substituted one for one with the head diameter and length equal or greater than required for the nails. Spacing of the screws can be no greater than that of the nails.

What is the difference between "regular" and "Type X" gypsum board?
Both regular and Type X gypsum board are covered under the ASTM C 1396 36, gypsum board standard specification. Regular gypsum has naturally occurring fire resistance due to the presence of gypsum in the core. Type X has special core additives to increase the natural fire resistance.

What is "Type C" gypsum board?
"Type C" gypsum board is a specially formulated gypsum board, meeting all the requirements of Type X gypsum board, with additional properties to further enhance the fire resistive characteristics of the product.
